Ancient Pigments in Afrasiab Murals: Characterization by XRD, SEM, and Raman Spectroscopy

نویسندگان

چکیده

The Afrasiab murals discovered in the northeast of Samarkand, Uzbekistan—the center ancient Silk Road—are presumed to date mid-seventh century during Sogdian era. Although previous studies have examined primary materials pigments used these using chemical and microscopic analyses, in-depth investigations pigment raw material composition not been conducted verify results studies. We applied X-ray diffractometry, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy conjunction with energy-dispersive spectroscopy for first time identify fragments obtained from murals. show that lazurite, cinnabar, amorphous carbon were as blue, red, black pigments, respectively. Moreover, we identified directly painted on wall surface; instead, they a white undercoat gypsum plaster, similar other Road paintings. this study can benefit provision more accurate information regard further support selection appropriate substances purposes conservation restoration

Structural Characterization of Steatite Vessels of Shadyakh by XRF, XRD and SEM Techniques

Using the stones to make tools and vessels dated back to Paleolithic and Neolithic periods. Stones so called soft stones, along with the alabaster, are one of the most famous stones that have been used to produce vessel in Near East, where they are in use currently in different applications. Soft stone vessels reach to highest level of flourishing during the Bronze Age and its geographical exch...

Characterization of Some Orange and Yellow Organic and Fluorescent Pigments by Raman Spectroscopy

Raman spectroscopy has become one of the most important vibrational analytical techniques for the investigation of paint samples and notably for organic pigments. For the analysis of modern materials, especially for synthetic inorganic and organic pigments the prospect of using Raman spectroscopy is an alternative to e.g. Py-GC-MS. It provides enough information allowing for a broad characteriz...

Analysing avian eggshell pigments with Raman spectroscopy.

Avian eggshells are variable in appearance, including coloration. Here, we demonstrate that Raman spectroscopy can provide accurate diagnostic information about major eggshell constituents, including the pigments biliverdin and protoporphyrin IX. Eggshells pigmented with biliverdin showed a series of pigment-diagnostic Raman peaks under 785 nm excitation. Eggshells pigmented with protoporphyrin...

MgSO4•11H2O – POWDER XRD, RAMAN AND VIS-NIR SPECTROSCOPIC CHARACTERIZATION

Why MgSO4·11H2O? Hydrous Mg-sulfate with 11 structural waters (11w hydrate), a new low temperature hydrated Mg-sulfate phase, was first reported in 2006 by Peterson & Wang [1]. They did a structural refinement using single-crystal XRD and suggested that the crystal molds in outcrops at Meridiani [2] could indicate melting and loss of the 11w hydrate. Chou et al. [3] proposed a phase boundary be...

Synthesis of carbon nanoparticles from kerosene and their characterization by SEM/EDX, XRD and FTIR

Carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) were synthesized by a simple way of incomplete combustion of kerosene. Synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy dispersive x-ray (EDX), Powder x-ray diffractometry (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The SEM particle sizes of prepared CNPs were found to be non-uniform. The average size of particl...
